Reception. The duchesse de Mouille-Bouche, the marquis de Cuisse-Madame,
Count de St. Germain, Baron de Buerré, Chevalier de Bergamotte,
Abbé de Bon-Chrétien; it is always with renewed pleasure
that I receive the expression of your wishes as well as those of
my vassals, serfs, villains, subjects, churls, and others ... by
two pear-eaters, J.J. Grand E. For.
The king, seated on the throne to the right receives courtiers,
ministers, public servants and others. All are depicted as pears.
Queen Marie Amélie is a Neapolitan pear and the king's sister,
Princess Adélaide sits on a cushioned stool in the lower-right
corner. Pears are also shown in the designs of the carpet, the
stained glass windows of the background and nestled in other architectural
elements.
