Abraham Oakey Hall is pursued by the Boss Tweed, Peter Sweeney, and another ghost.
Tweed and Sweeney hold torches labeled Disclosure.
The third ghost holds a cat-o-nine-tails labeled Persecution.
Hall was selected by Boss Tweed to be Tammany Hall's mayoral candidate. He was easily
elected in 1868 and reelected in 1869 and 1870. After graft was exposed by the New
York Times and Harper's Weekly, Hall was tried three times for malfeasance,
but nothing could be proved.
